Key Elements of the FLGND:
- Resolution for Climate Action: The FLGND reaffirms our fundamental rights and demands immediate, decisive action to combat the climate crisis. It recognizes that climate change is not just an environmental issue, but a critical factor influencing our health, economy, and way of life in Florida.
- Formation of Four Task Forces: To guide our state’s transition to a carbon-neutral future by 2050, the FLGND establishes four dedicated task forces:
- Resiliency Task Force: Focused on assessing vulnerabilities and enhancing Florida’s infrastructure and communities to withstand climate impacts like hurricanes, sea-level rise, and extreme weather events.
- Adaptation Task Force: Aims to help communities adjust to the effects of climate change through actionable plans for agriculture, water management, public health, and more.
- Green Technology Scaling Task Force: Works to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable transportation solutions already available and ready for immediate implementation.
- Future Technologies and Investment Task Force: Explores and evaluates emerging technologies with the potential to drive Florida’s long-term climate strategy, recommending investment in innovative solutions that need further research and development.
